This happened to my son last summer. We brought him to the ED at Rockyview because he had severe abdominal pain. The ED doctor was able to diagnosis my son’s issue of complex diverticulitis and said that he needed to be admitted for IV antibiotic treatment and a surgical consult but would be transferred to South Health Campus due to lack of beds at the Rockyview. There wasn’t a surgeon available for a consult either. My son waited all night in pain in a chair in the ED until an ambulance was available to move him to South Health Campus. One admitted the care was excellent but the journey to get there was horrific. His experience was simply due to staffing and acute bed shortages.
